Don't Pick That Scab

Don't Pick That Scab, 2012, acrylic on canvas, 48 x 48;

I am quite certain that most of us have shared feelings of frustration over our work, personal relationship with families and friends. Most often people deal with these feelings by escaping into a fantasy world where “getting even” with your boss or boyfriend carries no consequences. Perhaps enjoying the company of an attractive friend, a colleague in one’s thoughts without hurting anyone’s feelings. Majority of people might never admit these dark thoughts, fantasies to just anyone; however, we all share them. It is the primal, animalistic side in us all. We were just brought up to control these thoughts, fantasies and desires.

This painting represents these thoughts, feelings (seen as the visceral red texture of the background) being held back by the abstract and metaphoric scab (yellow shape). Much like our bodies biologically create a scab, this abstract shape holds the dark wishes in check. The message becomes clear! Do not remove it for bad things might come out!

Regardless of the colors, this is a rather subtle piece. There is a restrained calm before the storm, that could erupt at any moment though.

I leave it to the viewer to place together the pieces and thus dictate the outcome itself. It is a visual puzzle that makes one stop and search within.
